Studying at SBC in a city like Shanghai has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Regardless of where the future will take me, Shanghai and SBC will always be a second home to me.

  Choosing SBC

I chose to study at SBC because, in my opinion, it combines the best of both worlds - British academics and Chinese culture. I have been drawn to China since I first visited the country during a high school exchange with Weiyu High School in 2008. I first heard about SBC from a good friend of mine and was very impressed with his comments. Also the prospect of living in Shanghai while being enrolled at a British university was attractive to me. When I visited the campus, I knew that SBC was the right step for my academic and professional ambitions. The location could not be better, as the campus is situated right in the heart of the Former French Concession, a district with a rich history and unique atmosphere.

  Events Management

Events have fascinated me since I went to high school, where I participated in many events of different sizes with various target groups. Every event is unique - no two single events are the same - making Events Management a field of study where change is the only constant. I really liked what the Events Management course at SBC had to offer. It is a great program that offers students an international focus in the growing events and meetings industry. At the same time you learn the basics of business administration, such as accounting, economics and strategic management. There are many opportunities in Shanghai for event internships and part-time work, such as corporate event agencies, trade fair organisers, festival planners and international hotels.

  Internships

I was able to gain a high degree of professional experience throughout my studies, having worked in multiple companies across several industries, including marketing, human resource management and event organising. In 2015, I won the first prize in a nation-wide competition by FESCO Adecco, a Fortune Global 500 company. Upon winning I had the honor of shadowing FESCO Adecco’s CEO Mr Ni Ying for the duration of one month. I was able to connect with professionals from all over the world and different walks of life, which helped me to explore my passion to understand how organisations operate and the differences in how they are managed. During my time at Adecco,I also had the opportunity to contribute to a strategy paper, concentrating onthe company’s corporate-level strategy from 2015 to 2020.

  My Future

I plan on pursuing postgraduate degree in the coming academic year, preferably in the area of management. Before I studied at SBC I was not sure which career path would be the right one for me. Thanks to the support of my teachers, I was able to have had great interest in Strategic Management and aspire to work in a business consultancy in the future, where I can fully utilize my knowledge of the Chinese market, intercultural communication abilities and language skills, as I am fluent in English, Chinese and German.
